Quick, Easy, and Pretty Heart Hand Pies

I hosted a dinner party for friends a few weeks ago, and made these for dessert. They were a huge hit with my guests, and the best part? They took me 10 minutes to prep…and they are super pretty! If you are someone who loves to bake, but lacks all the knowledge and skills, then this recipe is for you! Enjoy!

What You Need:

A heart shaped cookie cutter (available at Bulk Barn, Walmart, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, Hudson’s Bay, Michaels)

Pillsbury Pie Crust (two 9″ – available at most grocery stores)

Jam (You can pick whatever flavour or brand you like. I went with Blue Menu Strawberry Rhubarb and Peach and Passion Fruit, but the possibilities are endless!)

1 Egg

1/4 cup of Pearl Sugar

Instructions:

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350F

Step 2: Roll out the pie crusts onto wax paper (the wax paper prevents the dough from sticking.)

Step 3: Use the heart shaped cookie cutter to cut out 12 hearts from the first 9″ pie crust.

Step 4: Place those hearts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Step 5: Use the heart shaped cookie cutter to cut out 12 more hearts from the second 9″ pie crust, and set aside.

Step 6: Add just under 1 tablespoon of jam in the middle of each heart sitting on the baking sheet.

Step 7: Beat the egg, and with your finger spread the egg along the outline of the heart.

Step 8: Use the additional 12 hearts, and place them on top of each heart on the baking sheet. Gently press down on the ends to seal them.

Step 9: Take a small fork and press down around the edges to seal them.

Step 10: Sprinkle each heart with the pearl sugar.

Step 11: Put them in the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes.

Serve with your favourite ice cream, and you have a delicious and pretty dessert!
