Have you heard about Hygge? Pronounced “hoo-gah” it is a Danish word used to describe a feeling or moment of coziness, comfort, well-being, or safety. It is about being present in a moment, and enjoying the simplicity and greatness of the feeling. You can enjoy it by yourself or with friends and family. You can feel it at home or while you are out.
While hygge is a feeling there are ways you can add certain items into your home to create the coziness and comfort.
- Throw blankets
There is nothing better than cuddling up on the couch wrapped up in a cozy throw blanket.
- Decorate Your Home with Items that have a Special Meaning or Memory
Hygge is about feeling comfort. Surround yourself with personal items that represent just that. It could be an item that you purchased on a trip, a family heirloom, your favourite book, or a special present from a loved one. It could also be photos of friends or family.
- Bring nature into your home.
This could be plants, rocks, flowers, or stone.
- Bring on the fire.
If you don’t have a fireplace, incorporate lots of candles around your home. Turn your lights off and enjoy.
- Create a cozy and comfortable place to sit.
Whether it’s a comfy couch, chair, floor of pillows, or a bean bag chair. Create that special go to place for you to relax and feel at peace.
